D Magazine Partners offers a variety of internships each semester. If you are looking to gain invaluable real-world media industry experience, you’ve come to the right place.

Working in the media industry is a fast-paced environment. Qualified candidates for our program must be able to work under demanding deadlines in a fast-paced environment, as well as possess excellent computer, communication and organizational skills. The D Magazine Partners internship program is highly competitive, and our interns are held to a high standard. Candidates must be available to work a minimum of 12 hours a week and commit to the full term of the semester. The D Magazine Partners Internship program is unpaid.
Applications must be completed by December 1. The spring internship program will start on January 21 and end on May 6.

EDITORIAL/JOURNALISM INTERNSHIPSD Magazine Editorial Intern
If glossy magazines give you a thrill, this is the internship for you. D Magazine editorial interns are smart, reliable, detail-oriented, talented, and curious. We’re looking for good writers and reporters who aren’t afraid to pick up the phone. Interns work closely with print staff to make every issue as perfect as possible, and primary responsibilities include fact-checking articles, covering local events, blogging, and working on projects for other departments and publications as availability and interest permits. Especially successful candidates will have an interest in pitching and writing for the front of the book section. You’ll discover the glamorous—and sometimes not-so-glamorous—side of publishing, and gain tons of real-world magazine experience along the way.D Magazine Business Editorial Internship
Are you looking for real-world journalism experience? Do you follow multiple news sources daily? Do you want to learn about the fast-paced world of business journalism and collect bylines at the same time? The business division of D Magazine Partners—which includes D CEO, D Business Daily, D Real Estate Daily, and D Healthcare Daily—is looking for talented, organized, and committed interns. You will have the opportunity to build your portfolio and resume by writing online news reports, and magazine stories for print. You’ll also gain invaluable fact-checking and proofreading experience, perform editorial research, attend issue planning meetings, and work on other editorial tasks. D’s community engagement department is new to the company. You’ll join Krista Nightengale in defining what this department means to the company. You’ll be helping plan forums and discussions you’ll compile information and you’ll help with launching the 2014-2015 class of D Academy. We’re looking for someone who is able to complete tasks without a lot of oversight. We want go-getters, big thinkers, and innovators. We need an energetic, smart, organized, reliable, and creative intern with an interest (or experience) in design, fashion, and weddings. If you have an interest in blogging, even better. The intern’s primary responsibilities include: writing, pitching ideas, and taking photos for our two blogs; fact-checking copy for our magazines; uploading events and trunk shows to the events section of the website; picking up and dropping off items for photo shoots; assisting editors with photo shoots; and writing small blurbs and entries for our magazines. If you like food and, most importantly, writing about it – this is probably your dream internship. We’re looking for a top-notch writer for SideDish, D Magazine’s popular food news blog. You must be organized, self-motivated, and interested (or have experience) with food blogging. Photography skills are preferred, but not an absolute must. You’ll be spending most of your time entering dining events into our directory system, covering some of those events, writing at least two blog posts per week, interviewing chefs/restaurant industry people/etc., and helping us out with small projects as needed. It’s a lot of work, but by the time your internship is over, you’ll know Dallas’ food scene better than you thought possible.D Magazine Lifestyle Intern (Online Editorial)
You will be working with the shopping and online managing editor, who oversees the shopping/beauty/fashion page on dmagazine.com and helps manage large-scale projects like The 10 Most Beautiful Women in Dallas, Survival of the Cutest dog contest, and Best of Big D: Readers’ Choice. You will assist in all of those areas. Tasks will include producing regular blog posts and stories for our fashion page, pitching new story ideas, adding shopping and beauty-related events to our online calendar, contributing to nightlife stories, helping maintain our beauty, nightlife, and shopping guides, general fact-checking and researching (which often includes popping into local boutiques), and a generous amount of blurb writing for various platforms across our website. People Newspapers is looking for interns who are willing to get a little ink on their hands. Editorial interns will be responsible for a variety of projects, including editing police blotters, proofreading, writing blog posts, pitching story ideas, and writing stories. The research department is looking for an organized self-starter to assist in the planning and execution of D Magazine‘s Best programs like Best of Big D, Best Doctors, Best Lawyers, and many others. You will be exposed to numerous departments at D Magazine including editorial, marketing, sales, and design. Primary responsibilities include fact-checking information by phone, email or Internet, researching and analyzing data, and working within data collection platforms. Experience with Excel, Survey Monkey, or Wufoo is preferred. D Magazine‘s online arts section is looking for an inquisitive, creative, reliable, and organized intern who can hit the ground running. ART/PRODUCTION INTERNSHIPSD Magazine Art/Production Intern
Get practical experience working closely with art and production teams on photo shoots and prepress. Interns will assist in the gathering of materials, photo editing, and archiving for all printed magazines. Excellent computer skills and knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite are preferred.D Custom Design and Photography Intern
D Custom is looking for a creative design and photography intern to assist with the launch of a new group of business publications in print and online. Our design and photography intern will have the opportunity to work closely with our Editor and Creative Director on editorial layouts, photo shoots, and photo editing for our publications, as well as the Publisher for marketing materials. This intern will work on a variety of photography assignments, and must have reliable transportation and his or her own equipment. Other duties may include attending events and trade shows and loading content into our CMS. Candidates must possess a working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, including InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator.D Custom Design Intern
The D Custom Design team is looking for a detail-oriented, creative thinker with a passion for visual communications to assist with various design needs. This is a hands-on internship, so the intern must have knowledge of the Adobe Creative suite, basic design principles, typography, print and digital design standards, and be a team player ready to contribute to a wide range of projects. The intern will work directly with the design team to design print magazine layouts, assist in photo research and editing, and to help create web and digital design projects. As the web photographer for dmagazine.com, you’ll get to take photos for all of D’s online communities (SideDish, FrontBurner, and more). This includes visiting some of the newest restaurants around town, events/parties, and historical Dallas landmarks. The ideal candidate for this position is flexible, organized, responds quickly to emails and text messages, and able to travel to multiple locations in DFW throughout the week. You do have to be open on some weekday evenings and weekends. Turning in your work on tight deadlines is a must. Generally, you’ll be helping us fill our directories, photograph new restaurants/shops, and capture the atmosphere at events. The more available you are, the more your credited photographs will show up on D Magazine‘s website.
MARKETING/BRAND INTERNSHIPSD Custom Social Media Intern
The D Custom audience development team is looking for two social media interns. Daily responsibilities will include posting blogs, scheduling content, proofreading, researching, learning and implementing SEO, conducting analytics reports, and brainstorming ways to improve client’s digital presence through social strategy. Experience in WordPress, Microsoft office, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, and Pinterest in preferred. After this internship, you will also have sufficient experience in SEO Yoast, Shutterstock, HootSuite, Google analytics, and Facebook Insights. This position focuses on marketing D Magazine editorial content, company/brand news, seminars, and events. ADVERTISING/SALES INTERNSHIPSD Magazine Partners Ad Sales Intern
Our advertising team is looking for an enthusiastic self-starter who can put the client’s needs first. As an intern in the advertising department, you will gain first-hand experience in the industry by working alongside our ad directors and executives on client services and business development initiatives for all our publications, including D Magazine, D Home, D Weddings, D CEO and D Online. This internship works closely with marketing and brand departments for special sections and event sponsorship opportunities. Opportunities for this position include: attending planning meetings and networking events, accompany ad directors on sales calls, research/prospect clients, and aid in maintaining client relationships. Special digital projects will include: helping with directory listing and reporting, monitoring ad campaigns in Google DFP, Analytics, and Adwords. The Media Development intern will assist in the print and digital launch of a new group of business publications published by D Custom, and will play a role in the development and implementation of its marketing, business development, and public relations plan. Primary responsibilities will be to help research, evaluate, and implement new business ideas. Thinking like an entrepreneur is a large part of the job, which feeds on multiple tasks and projects. This intern will experience how new ventures, ancillary products, special sections and sponsorship opportunities are developed, from pitching the idea, to follow through and end product. Interaction is with all departments, and will include some vendors and advertising clients. This position requires innovative thinking, an outgoing personality, great attention to detail, strong organizational and collaboration skills, and the ability to meet deadlines. Daily responsibilities include assisting with business development, coordinating marketing materials, creating advertising logs, research and analysis, and keeping up with media industry news and local competitors. Other duties are varied and may include participating in D events and attending trade shows. Interns will be exposed to all facets of the advertising/marketing efforts of the newspapers: completing special projects for Marketing Consultants including gathering materials to provide to clients, cold calling to update/maintain client databases, phone prospecting, updating sales tools/marketing collateral, creating logs of advertisers in competitor publications, and assisting the Marketing Manager in event planning/execution.
